Bonfire night is one of my absolute favourite times of the year. I dislike Hallowe'en and I don't really go in for Christmas, but I do love a big bang and some pretty lights.
In the years that T & I have been together we've always made it to a display somewhere, so it was a bit of a shock not to make it this year, and as this post goes live, I'm not sure I'll even make it to a display with friends tonight. Not only is it slightly distressing that I'll miss the bright lights, but there's a sentimental part of my that clings to bonfire night as a bit of an 'our' thing.
When I think back to watching fireworks last year, the air was full of change. I was interviewing for the job I now have, T & I were planning forward to living together, we had a lot going on and a lot of exciting things to look forward to, as much as being able to look back on achievements of the prior 12 months. And this year should be much of a muchness. Under 12 months since starting my 'proper' job, I've just accepted a promotion to a management position, it kicked in on the 1st of November, and it's exciting for me as it represents some serious progression. T & I have finally moved into a flat that we call home and don't hate living in, and T has made huge changes in the last 12 months that have driven his own plans and goals further forward.
Guy Fawkes and his government plot may be the centre of November 5th, but for me, I think bonfire night is always going to take on a kind of anniversary role where I get to enjoy achievements and celebrate plans. Not to mention enjoy some explosions that aren't going to get us into a pickle with some over-friendly Spaniels and a burly police officer.
Happy Bonfire Night all, and if you fancy a little treat, don't forget you have until Monday November 11th to enter my giveaway!
