For The Journey: A Running Update #2

For the very first time in my life, I have enjoyed running. I got a few funny looks as I finished off my most enjoyable run ever because I couldn't help but grin. This is a major revelation for me. I even took my trainers on holiday and wanted to do a couple of runs.

And then....

Sprained ankle. Not impressed.

First I thought it was sprained- and so did the sports therapist guy I went to see- having done some serious damage to my right ankle in my teens, I'm a bit precious about both of them.

I have chubby ankles but the swelling on the left is out of control. Sigh.

Then they thought it might be fractured- I don't exactly have skinny ankles to start with, but the swelling on the left was out of control and getting worse.

Luckily, it's not fractured. But the frustration at being off my feet for the last 2 weeks and probably another week more is huge. I don't actually know how I managed this injury- I went out and had a great run- no falls, trips, slips or anything else. That evening I went to stand up and well, hello pain.

The chances of me being able to take part in the #werunlondon Nike Women's 10km on June 21st are slim at this point. Even if I can get back out there next week, I don't have time to both ease back into training AND catch up on the weeks I've missed.

At the end of the day, it's just a sprained ankle, but right now it feels like the end of the world- finally getting somewhere with training, finally finding the joy in running and exercise and preparing for a first event, only to suddenly be stopped in my tracks by a pretty crucial part of my anatomy for the job.

Travel: An Unexpected Holiday Photo Diary

I wasn't really planning much holiday-wise this year, we've had other priorities between financial commitments and work. But sometimes an opportunity comes along that's just too good to refuse and so we grabbed it and ran.

So, possibly the least organised I have ever been before a trip, we didn't know how we were getting back from the airport until we were discussing it on the flight home and am I the only one who puts their summer swimwear away and then can't find it? But I also had a fabulous week, came home feeling refreshed and raring to go (helped by all the goodies in the business inbox waiting for me) and full of amazing fish and seafood. A brief Photo Diary...

We had a great week, and after the victory of understanding that you can do 'doing holidays' in your own way (for me that means picking a few things I hope I'll love rather than trying to do loads) in Paris, I'm home and refreshed and raring to go for the busiest part of the year for business. Yeah- I'm that annoying person on Twitter who was excited to be back at work post-holiday because of the stuff in my inbox!

The other bonus- I'm now starting to look at plans for next year, and hopefully some further flung adventures for me!
